I've been once in Bangkok but we stayed in somewhere on Sukhumvit road. This time I had to see THE Khao San road, which is well-known among backpackers. We stayed 5 minutes walk away from Khao San. The hostel was called 'Full House' and we got a private room because it was cheaper than take two dorm beds. Bed was really uncomfortable so I was more than happy to stay only 2 nights there. In Bangkok we did some exploring. I wanted to see the Grand Palace so we asked from tuk tuk driver how much the ride would be cost to go there and the guy said that he could take us to 4 different attractions and wait us for only 20 baht/each, BUT, there's always but, we had to go to two different shop and act like we are interested in their products so they will get some free gasoline coupons or something.. Well we decided to do that because it was so cheap :D It wasn't that hard at all, but then after two shops the tuktuk driver asked if we could do ONE MORE and then again ONE MORE and then we had enough. We just wanted to be polite but after 4 shops and 2 attractions it felt like HARD JOB :D So we just paid the 40 baht and left. SO I wouldn't recommend that to anyone. Don't do it. Be wiser than we were ;D
We also did some shopping. Im so proud of myself that I only bought 2 dresses and bikinis :)
I still don't like Bangkok that much.. It's too big, it's hard to go around and it's really expensive.
We bought bus tickets to Chiang Mai from Derek Tours -shop, near Khao San I think it was Samsen road or something.. Tickets cost only 400baht which is probably the cheapest price to get to Chiang Mai from Bangkok, BUT, DON'T BUY TICKETS FROM THERE. First of all, the lady who sold the tickets to us, couldn't speak english at all and we weren't even sure what time the bus leaves. In some how we figured that out.. First minibus picked us up and dropped us to middle of traffic somewhere in Bangkok and we had no idea where the bus is coming. We were having a small panic and asked for help and finally one lady came and said "follow me your bus is leaving in different place". We were a bit worried but we followed her and finally got to the bus.
About 6am bus driver just dropped us AGAIN to middle of nowhere and people were quite confused because we were in front of the gas station next to highway and it didn't look like Chiang Mai at all. The bus just left and then one guy realized that there's something stolen from his backpack. I opened mine and my bag looked like there has been 3rd world war.. We asked from taxi driver where we were and he said that it's about 10 km to Chiang Mai! We were so pissed off! I was so tired after traveling so many hours again and worried what they've been stolen from me....
You'll find that out later ;)
Oh and btw.. I have no clue anymore how much money I've spent in a day.. and maybe that's better... Have to start look for jobs soon ;)
